The Thomas C. Donnelly Library supports the teaching, research and community activities of New Mexico Highlands University. It acquires, organizes, preserves and makes accessible pertinent information and scholarly materials that advance the curricular needs, intellectual pursuits and personal enrichment of its clientele. It promotes programs and services that emphasize the diversity of the university’s multicultural community and heritage. In accordance with New Mexico Highlands University’s overall educational commitment, it elicits an environment of respect and understanding for its diverse population in an intellectually stimulating atmosphere that is conducive to academic achievement. An addition increased the square footage from 23,700 to 53,500 and now holds a book collection of almost 200,000 volumes.



Carnegie Library (1904)

The first and only surviving Carnegie Library in New Mexico. This beautiful library was built with a $10,000 donation from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. This prime example of Neo-Classical Revival architecture, resembling Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, occupies one city block bordered by handsome Victorian-style structures.

The City Museum & Memorial is preparing for the 21st century by preserving the past in a congenial atmosphere. The museum came into being after veterans from Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders regiment named Las Vegas as their official reunion home. The first Rough Rider Reunion was held in Las Vegas in June of 1899.
